A Peaceful Garden in Merrylands
Central Gardens Nature Reserve is one of Western Sydney’s hidden gems, with winding pathways, lush gardens, ponds and an impressive cascading waterfall creating a surprisingly tranquil setting. Despite being close to major roads, the reserve feels secluded and offers plenty of picturesque locations for an intimate legal marriage ceremony.
Great for a Simple Legal Ceremony
If you’re planning a simple legal wedding with just the two of you or a small group of family and friends, Central Gardens is a lovely option.
I particularly recommend weekday ceremonies, when the reserve is generally much quieter. You’ll have a better chance of enjoying the beautiful waterfall and surrounding gardens without large crowds, creating a more relaxed atmosphere for your ceremony and photographs.
Weekends, school holidays and public holidays can become quite busy with families enjoying the playgrounds, picnic areas and animal enclosures, so weekdays offer the most peaceful experience.
Planning a Larger Wedding?
While Central Gardens can be hired for wedding ceremonies through Cumberland City Council, I recommend this location primarily for simple legal ceremonies rather than larger weddings.
If you’re planning guest seating, an arbour, decorations, amplified music or wish to reserve an area exclusively for your ceremony, you’ll need to contact Cumberland City Council regarding bookings and permit requirements.
Why I Love Central Gardens
Central Gardens offers something quite unique in Western Sydney. The combination of the waterfall, sandstone cliffs, ponds, established gardens and peaceful bushland provides beautiful natural backdrops without needing to travel far from the city.
For couples wanting a relaxed, intimate legal ceremony followed by gorgeous photographs, it’s one of my favourite hidden locations—especially on a quiet weekday morning when you can truly enjoy the sounds of the waterfall and the beauty of the gardens
