Mrs Macquaries Chair Weddings

Sydney’s Most Famous Harbour Outlook

Mrs Macquaries Chair is one of the most recognisable locations in Australia. Situated on the edge of Sydney Harbour within the Royal Botanic Garden, it offers uninterrupted views of the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the city skyline all in one breathtaking panorama.

While many people refer to the entire area simply as “Mrs Macquaries Chair”, there are actually several beautiful ceremony locations spread around the peninsula. Some overlook the Opera House, others frame the Harbour Bridge, while others provide quieter spaces surrounded by sandstone, lawns and harbour foreshores.

For couples wanting an iconic Sydney backdrop, it’s hard to beat.

Choosing Your Ceremony Location

One of the biggest advantages of the Royal Botanic Garden is flexibility.

Rather than asking couples to choose an exact location months in advance, I usually recommend exploring the Gardens when you arrive and choosing the spot that feels right on the day. The Gardens change constantly with the seasons, the weather, maintenance work and the number of visitors, so having flexibility often results in a far better experience.

Some couples fall in love with sweeping harbour views, while others discover a quiet tree-lined lawn they hadn’t expected. Because we’re only holding a simple legal ceremony, we can usually move freely between suitable locations.

Things to Know

Mrs Macquaries Chair is one of Sydney’s busiest tourist attractions. Tour groups, visitors, joggers and photographers are here throughout the day, particularly on weekends and during holidays.

The good news is that the surrounding peninsula offers several suitable ceremony locations, allowing us to move slightly if one particular area is crowded.

Weekday mornings usually provide the quietest experience.

Perfect for Simple Legal Ceremonies

This location is ideal for the relaxed style of ceremonies I perform.

We’re simply gathering together, saying the legal words, signing the paperwork and celebrating your marriage while enjoying one of the world’s most spectacular harbour views.

Because we’re not bringing chairs, tables, arches, floral installations or other ceremony furniture, we can remain flexible and choose the best available location on the day.

Photography Without Leaving the Location

One of the biggest advantages of marrying at Mrs Macquaries Chair is the incredible variety of photographs available within a few minutes’ walk.

You’ll have opportunities to capture:

  • Sydney Opera House
  • Sydney Harbour Bridge
  • Sydney skyline
  • Harbour foreshore
  • Historic sandstone
  • Tree-lined pathways
  • Harbour coves
  • Open lawns
  • Waterfront walkways
  • Sunset over the harbour
